Advice on finding quality fishing partners

I wanted fishing buddies so bad that three years ago I started making my own (wife helped). They came out totally uninterested in fishing and require tons of upkeep that actually reduces my fishing time.
mine is now 14 and still completely uninterested in fishing. They DO love camping though!

And the more you PUSH them to like it the less they'll want to participate!

And any way you cut it....a parent is not 'a buddy' to their children.

That's hilarious!

So whatta ya say @kvandreas I'm pretty sure you're armed with all the ways to get and keep (or lose) a fishing buddy including (consensual) coitus.
I’ve really enjoyed photos of you and your family fishing.

The OP asked about (quality) “partners”: is a fishing partner not the same as a buddy? ;-)

Just use IG or TikTok and post a picture of the big fish you caught, the water's name and the rock you stood on.

While flyfishing I am sometimes approached by other flyfishers who introduce themselves and occasionally even suggest meeting up for future fishing (usually when we both happen to live in Spokane...because many of the lakes I fish involve 4 hours of round-trip driving). Probably the offer's intent is to 'truck-pool' to save on transportation costs...I know it certainly can't be the allure of my shitty flyfishing or conversational skills (which consist mostly of grunts, foul language, belches, and farts).

I always remain pleasantly vague and non-commital since I very much enjoy a quiet drive before and after time on water...and know that acquiring another fishing buddy will only add to the complexity of my outings.

And getting rid of a bad fishing buddy would be like trying to remove chewing gum from the bottom of your shoe, as well as possibly hurting the feelings of an otherwise decent human being.

All of the above goes completely out the window in the somewhat unlikely event April Vokey wants to be my fishing buddy.

Become very proficient on a few waters. Then hire yourself out as a 'guide'. That way you can check them out and get paid for doing that...

So that was you on Amber Lake 2 summers ago I heard?
I thought the smell was from the cattle on the south shore.

I’ve never had a consistent fishing partner or buddy before outside of family or taking a friend out once every few years or so.

But I do have a lot of fishing acquaintances that I’ve known for years. There’s one Puget Sound beach I fish multiple times a week each summer where it feels like every time I go out it’s like a little reunion. And it’s been that way for 10-15 years now.

I can relate, my son is 15 and not interested at all. I did take him a few times when he was around 8-9, I think it's one of those things - you either got it in you or you don't. My 11 y.o daughter don't mind it b/c she has more patience. Maybe they'll have interest when they get older, who knows...
