"The authorities of the Republic of Poland, after consultations between the President and the Goverment, are ready to deploy – immediately and free of charge – all their MIG-29 jets to the Rammstein Air Base and place them at the disposal of the Government of the United States of America.

At the same time, Poland requests the United States to provide us with used aircraft with corresponding operational capabilities. Poland is ready to immediately establish the conditions of purchase of the planes.

The Polish Government also requests other NATO Allies – owners of MIG-29 jets – to act in the same vein."

Finally something official on getting Ukraine planes their pilots can fly 👆

I hope they still have some ground intercept radars and good people to man them. The fulcrum is a capable fighter but it's radar is weak and needs thr GCI to direct them to the enemy. It's also not especially capable of ground attack I wish they could get them some frogfoots too.

SU 23's would absolutely change the face of this conflict. It would be like adding 2 wings of A 10's to the Ukrainian Air Force.

How about a no legged man in an ass kicking contest??
The man? Douglas Bader
The ass kicking contest? The battle of Britain.
Yeah. Total badass. If he can fly a WW 2 fighter with prosthetics from that era, and win, no telling what he would have done having his legs back

Could be, or because the tech is just too advanced and their pilots don't have the luxury of time to learn every bell and whistle.
This along with not wanting Russia or China to posssibly get ahold of any newer technology.
I was a Flight Control Systems Specialist on F-111's 50 years ago. I was on launch and debrief crews and the F-4 pilots that we were retraining relied heavily on us. It was a fun job with a lot of good teamwork displayed between the officers and enlisted guys.

Sit on your hands and dont touch the stick right?

Anybody read Kim Stanley Robinson's Ministry for the Future? With the swarms of small drones each carrying a small explosive that would
converge on large targets?

Not to thread drift but you're pretty close, TFR was just one of the many functions of the F-111 that more or less did exactly that.
Looking back, this stuff was pretty high tech for 1969.
The first minute or so of the video gives a brief summation. It briefly shows but doesn't mention that there is also a soft, medium, and hard ride setting.

Funny story on this... we had a four plane sortie practicing around Mt. Rushmore and they hit a snow squall. Little did they know that the system would sense a solid wall and put them into a 2.8 G fly up. There were definitely a few questions at debriefing.

CNN just said Pentagon doesn't want the Polish MiG's:

CNN: Pentagon dismisses Poland's proposal to transfer fighter jets to US for delivery to Ukraine.

WTF, O??

I think it's safe to say the Pentagon wants those MiG's in Ukraine ASAP. Poland is rightfully afraid that flying them from their soil to Ukraine would be sticking their necks out - big time. They want the US and other NATO countries to share the responsibility so they don't take the first tactical nukes when Putin finally snaps (make no mistake, that's a primary reason the Patriot missiles are being deployed.). The problem with Poland "washing their hands" by sending them to Ramstein, is the political ramifications for NATO and the US by flying them into a combat zone from a US base - even if the pilots are Ukrainian.

In spite of the fact that there's effectively zero logistical difference whether the jets were flown, or even trucked into Ukraine - politically that could be spun as an act of war from the US and whatever NATO country they were flown from. Putin may be a psycho, but he's a brilliant psycho when it comes to spinning lies (as are his CCP buddies). He would use that to maximum effect with the Russian populace by playing on the fears that the US, and NATO, have been planning to attack Russia since the end of WWII. Basically that WE are the new manifestation of the Third Reich (again, Potin meet kettle). This fear is so deeply ingrained in the Russian psyche - it could possibly turn the tide of anti-war protests to anti-US/NATO.

So as frustrating as this may be, the Pentagon is playing smart. Not sure what the solution is but, maybe, as ridiculous as it sounds, I say treat the jets like all the other weapons cargo. Fly them as close to the border as possible, find a way to load them on a train or truck, and ship them by land to the nearest airstrip in Ukraine.

The downstream impact of Russian sanctions that will be felt by much of the world is a graphic wakeup call of being dependent on totalitarian regimes. What happens if we get into a serious dispute with China over Taiwan or such and they withhold shipments of the computer chips we are so dependent on.

We have allowed corporate profits to overrule what is good for our country and citizens, watching key industries moved or contracted offshore in the name of profits, and it is critical we bring those industries home.

US corporations have trillions parked offshore to avoid revenue taxation, and it is well overdue time to provide a tax holiday on those $ if fully invested in new US plants and infrastructure. It would strengthen the corporations by removing foreign affairs interference from their operations, and it would profoundly strengthen both our national security and economic future.

Thanks to everyone who posted about this organization. Given the worsening situation regarding refugees and food shortages, and the excellent rating and efficiency of this charity; we also made a donation.
Yes thanks y’all for posting about Central World Kitchen. I made a donation this morning. After seeing Jose Andres and CWK on the news about Ukraine and on this thread i looked it up on Charity Navigator. They have a very good rating. Here is the link.

Yeah they're unbelievable...even feeding hot meals to Ukrainians hunkered down in bomb shelters in Kharkiv. The courage their volunteers have is incredible and inspiring.
