NFR NFL 2023 Season

Holy shit. That’s so much money.

It’s not enough to get into the NFL HOF unfortunately. I like RW3 when he was younger but also because there was those around him who kept him in his place (in a kinda way) he couldn’t break free from Bam Kam, Sherman, Lynch, Baldwin, Wright, Wagner, types. Strong alpha males that kept him from cooking too much tofu 😛

listening to Cowherd from earlier....this is classic from his interview with Schlereth.

Colin: do you think Russ has a market?

Schlereth: no.

Wilson will land with a team.
There's far worse QB'S out there, and teams that will sign him...after he is cut, and for around 7-12 million a year.
If he won't take that kind of money, he may be retiring.
More young guys every year, so his window is closing quickly for sure

2024 should be a busy QB draft.

As much as Wilson has struggled, NE would be above .500 and in the playoff hunt with him at QB.
There will be a market. I am not sure how the money works with his contract though. If he is cut, does the team signing him assume his salary for cap reasons. If so, the market will be slim. If not, why would a team not take a flyer on him. He does not throw it to the wrong team.
As a matter of perspective, I have watched the QB's from the team that I root for turn it over alot while having similar low production. Jets are similar this year and most years. Raiders have no legit QB. Vikings got bumpkis. Washington's QB's tend to throw it to the wrong team. I am sure that there are a couple more.

If an NFL player is cut, his contract simply evaporates, no longer exists. He may collect any owed monies related to signing bonus or guaranteed money etc. on the old contract, but from then on...he negotiates a new contract with a new team.

I thought if they were being paid their salary, any new salary was deducted from the old one. As in he wouldn't make any more money by playing.

Maybe thats basketball though....

Every NFL player who is on a team's roster during the year will earn a base salary divided up into 18 installments. That covers the 17-game schedule and the bye week which make up the season. If a player gets cut during the season, the bulk of the money they expected to earn gets lost unless they have a guarantee.

NFL contracts are funny, generally look waaaay more than they actually are, unless your name is Deshaun Watson where all of it is guaranteed.

Guaranteed money baby!!!!!! That’s the culprit with many of these contracts.

That is true with coaches. They have offsets in their contracts.
Say they were being paid 3 mil per year and they had only one year left when they got fired. They get a new job, but it only pays 1 mil per year. Rather than owning 3 mil, the old team that fired them only owes them 2 mil.

Wilson will be a free agent when he gets cut, so he can sign anywhere for what someone will pay him.
SF

If what you all are saying is correct, he will have a market. It may not be a robust market but there will be one.

Not all NFL contracts are fully guaranteed. Among nearly 2,000 players under contract in 2022, only 112 had fully-guaranteed deals.

I doubt Russ plays for a cheap contract. I really don't think he cares enough about football at this point to do it unless there's big time money in it for him.

Well, according to you lot most QBs are overpaid so you should be able to grab him for 10-20 mill and just plug him into a system.... 😜

At 35, Wilson is not as mobile, and that is what made him command the big numbers. He can still run an offense, and still throw the deep ball, but his escapability is not what it was, and that was a big part of his game.
Now he's going to be somewhere next year, but not for 50 million.
