With the results of their presidential run-off election, the Argentines are headed for some interesting times. (As if they weren't living in them already considering their economy)
Dollarization? (implentation doubtful, but useful campaign rhetoric).
I wonder how the economic uncertainty will impact the fishing lodges and booking agents?
 
I would just be concerned with the cost of a trip down there going up dramatically, if it hasn't already! We worry here about inflation of 6% to 8% and Argentina had an inflation rate of 184%! That would put gas here in Redmond from $4 / gallon to about $11 / gallon and a latte at Starbucks up to about $15! Crazy shit. Plus the new guy makes Trump look almost normal.. sad state of affairs worldwide.. I'll defer any trip to Patagonia to the distant future, which just sucks! Fish on!

At least he appears to spend a vital portion of his day making sure that his hair is elegantly coifed. Seems to be a thing these days.
 
Why would traveling to Argentina be a concern now? If you are paying in USD or Euros, you will have a great trip. Hopefully the newly elected government will be able to stabilize their long suffering economy from decades of self inflicted wounds.

Agree with @DimeBrite re USD and Euros will rule, tho I’m not enamored of the self absorbed nut job who was elected to manage skyrocketing inflation. Such a great country, wonderful people, tho some very sad times. Myself and a friend went there five or six times in the 80s & 90s and enjoyed the hell out of it every time. After 9/2001 international travel became a major ass ache.
In January 1988 we landed in BA and had to spend 3 days in the city due to a military rebellion/coup by a colonel or general convoying his troops toward BA seeking amnesty from charges of human rights crimes and abuses. If you ever get a chance to deep into the story of Los Desaparisidos you’ll connect the dots. It doesn’t shine bright on this country either. That being said, spending three days in Buenos Airies isn’t hard to take either.
I’ll let you know mid March upon my return. Maybe even a Trucha show & tell. Going to Chubut province, where I haven’t been since ‘92, to see if the food is still as good, the people still as welcoming as ever, the wildlife as wonderful as ever, and maybe get a little fishing in….maybe a just a bit more than a little.
Here’s hoping the Argentine people survive another made for TV presidential election. They deserve better.

Let's do a group PNW Fly Fishing member outing to Argentina in 2024. We need eyes and wading boots on the ground. Much better than watching the fear machine.

What!? Really!? Another country elects a weirdo political candidate and that's reason to leave this forum? Hell, even if the new president was family to this member, that's some pretty damn thin skin. Good thing no jokes were made or they may have truly suffered.
